How do I know CBS is the right place for my child?
At Cowra Ballet School, we pride ourselves on providing quality dance education, while maintaining a family atmosphere with values of collaboration, developing confidence, and creative innovation. CBS is unique in its views, that each dancer is an individual, with different needs and desires of what dance means to them. We try to facilitate these differences as best as possible in every class.
How long is a typical dance season?
Our terms follow the NSW Public School system terms. There are 4 terms per year, ranging from 9 to 11 weeks depending on various holidays, and commencement dates etc.
Term 4 is shorter due to our end of year production, which is held in early Dec.

What should my child wear to classes?
We follow a uniform policy at Cowra Ballet School, which ensures students arrive looking presentable and ready to participate in dance classes. Some styles of dance have different requirements for footwear. Please refer to our Enrolment Information Booklet for uniform requirements.
All uniform items are available for purchase from The Dancers Corner, an affiliated dancewear shop. Call Jan on 0429422975 for more information on purchasing uniforms.
When is tuition due, and how much do I owe?
Tuition is calculated on a termly basis, and payable before the commencement of each term. An itemised invoice will be sent to you with details of term tuition and the due date. Please also refer to the Termly Tuition Structure fact sheet for a break down of prices.
How can my child join the performance team?
Cowra Ballet School is the home of one of Cowra most well known dance performance groups, Torsion Youth Choreographic Ensemble. Torsion members receive an invitation at the start of each year, inviting them to join the performance team. Pre-requisites for Torsion members is at least two ballet class, and one other class of choice, every term.

My child missed class last week, do we still have to pay tuition?
Yes, student absences do not affect tuition prices. Tuition prices remain the same weather it is a 9 week term, or 11 week term. Your child may attend another class to ‘catch up’ the missed class. Please contact Hayley for details.
If for some reason, CBS cancels a class, we will do all we can to reschedule, or combine classes to make up those missed.
How old does my child need to be to start taking dance classes?
Our tiny tots program is open to children as young as 2 years old. Once your child turns 5, more opportunities become available, such as multiple classes in varying styles of dance. Every child is different, and we do our best to tailor our classes to meet the needs of each student in the class. Children will be placed in class levels at the teachers discretion.
What styles of dance do you offer?
Cowra Ballet School offers a wide variety of style of dance, including ballet (Royal Academy of Dance), jazz/hip hop, tap (Tapatak OZ), Afro/contemporary, lyrical, musical theatre, acro, technique building classes, and drama.

My child does ballet. Are exams compulsory?
No. Exams are not compulsory for any ballet student. Cowra Ballet School follows the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) training syllabus for all ballet classes from Pre-Primary up to Advanced. The RAD, specify a particular number of hours that are required to be spent on ballet technique training per week, in order to qualify for ballet exams. For those wishing to enter their ballet exams, they must meet these hours, via at least two RAD syllabus classes at CBS, and at home practice.
When do I get to watch my child perform?
Throughout the term, teachers may invite parents into the studio at the end of the class to present what they have been working on. This won’t happen every week, but all teachers are proud of their students, and will be excited to show them off at any chance they get!
Cowra Ballet School enters some groups into the Cowra Eisteddfod. As part of our mission to develop confidence in children and provide them with opportunities, we encourage teachers to work with students to develop an eisteddfod item or two. Dates are included on the Important Dates fact sheet.
Also, every year, in early December, CBS puts on a full production following a popular storyline from a children’s movie, book or fairytale. It is one of the most anticipated events of the year, and although it isn’t compulsory, every child looks forward to performing on stage at the end of the year. Dates are included on the Important Dates fact sheet.
My child is participating in a performance. How much will the costume cost?
We try to minimise costs as much as possible by hiring costumes to each student, usually for less than $50 per costume. To buy a brand new costume, can be upwards of $100 each, but we are lucky to have a wide collection of costumes that we use to hire to each student at a lower cost to you.
